A DISTRESSED woman was rescued by a lifeboat crew in the early hours of this morning (Thurs).

Burnham’s RNLI lifeboat crew was paged at about 3.15am after reports that a woman was in difficulty on the town’s beach near to the pavilion.

The Constance Green lifeboat was launched shortly after and two crew members entered the water to rescue the woman.

Two Coastguard team members helped her to return to the shore, where paramedics took her to hospital after initial checks.

Coastguard station officer Steve Bird said: “The incident was attended by the Coastguard, RNLI, police and paramedics in a smooth coordinated operation and everyone performed brilliantly.”
