WESTON Lions Club has donated thousands of pounds to the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity following its annual real ale festival.

The event, which is now in its sixth year, was held on the Beach Lawns in Weston in July, and also hosted the Lions’ and Mercury’s Go Kids Go! awards presentation.

Representatives from Weston Lions visited the air ambulance’s base in Bristol for a cheque presentation, and had the opportunity to meet the crew.

Chris Nelson, Weston Lions vice-president and the festival’s co-ordinator, said: “We have been delighted to donate £5,000 to such a worthy cause, and have already started planning next year’s event which looks to be even bigger and better.

“We are indebted to a large number of local businesses who kindly sponsor a barrel of beer, some have been with us from day one, but we are always looking for new sponsors, which will enable us to support some very good causes with needed funds.”
