Coastguards and hovercraft crews say they are worried the beach has been blocked by cars several times in the last few weeks by motorists parking in front of the access gates opposite Unity Farm.

Sedgemoor District Council closed the gates in October to stop vehicles getting onto the beach in winter and they are not due to reopen until Easter. But some walkers have been parking in front of the gates which emergency services use to get to coastguard call-outs.

Burnham coastguard officer Steve Bird said: "We are warning people not to park there as continual access to the beach is required 24 hours a day."
