The majority of the thefts have taken place near the main roads of the A38, A370 and A369. Criminals have been targeting mid and long wheel base vans, forcing their side sliding doors and stealing tools and valuables. The majority of victims have reported the value of their stolen tools to be over £1,000. PC Steve Burrough, Weston's crime reduction officer, said: "We are asking van owners to remember to firmly secure their vehicles and put valuables out of sight. Tools should be marked with a postcode so they can be identified if stolen. "We strongly recommend purchasing a strong box to keep tools locked in. These can be purchased from commercial vehicle security websites."If vehicles are broken in to, we urge the owners to wait for the crime scene investigation unit to examine the vehicle before doing anything. By doing this, victims of crime will not destroy any evidence." For more details contact the police on 0845 4567000 or go to www.avonandsomerset.police.uk
