Almost half a million pounds has been provided to improve flood defences in Locking Castle and Worle.

The money has been allocated by the Environment Agency to reduce the chances of flooding causing problems in Worle.

The work will take place in Summer Lane, Locking Castle, over the next few years.

Summer Lane was particularly badly hit by flooding in 2016, and specialist pumps were needed to remove 4,000 litres of water a minute after heavy rain.

There is a pond in Summer Lane which occasionally bursts its banks.

Weston MP John Penrose is happy with the funding.

He said: “Everyone who held their breath as the water got higher and higher around Summer Lane a few years ago will welcome this investment.

“Disaster was avoided on that occasion, thank goodness, but these works ought to mean local residents won’t have to worry it might happen again.”
