A LONG-serving parish council chairwoman from Wrington has retired after 24 years of service.

Echo Irving, of Church Walk, received a presentation and flowers from vice-chairman, David Glynn, in recognition of her work in the parish.

She has been on the council for 24 years and this included being deputy for 10 years and chairwoman for the past five years.

Echo said: “I have stepped down completely as I felt I had been on it long enough.

“I have so many other interests, such as the parochial church council, I paint, and I am active within the drama club so I will still be busy.

“I just felt it was the right time and a natural time to go given the timing of the elections.

“I shall miss being involved but I hope now that younger people can be encouraged to join as it is one of the best things you can do for your parish.”

A vote on who will become the new chairman will be taken at the next parish council meeting.
