Church service Winscombe

The bells of celebration were chiming last week, after a night of Evensong was held in Winscombe to celebrate The Queen becoming Britain's longest reigning monarch.

As Her Majesty surpassed Queen Victoria’s reign of 63 years and 217 days, residents gathered at the Church of St James to mark the occasion.

The historic Grade I listed church played host to an evening of hymns, bell-ringing and concluded with a patriotic rendition of God Save The Queen.

William Du Croz said: “The service was well attended.‘Long to reign over us’ was a very fitting line to sing.”
