Lorries crash on M5 in North Somerset

Motorists face major disruption in North Somerset this morning (Tuesday) with the M5 partially closed.

The southbound carriageway is completely shut between junctions 19 (Portishead) and 20 (Clevedon).

It is expected to be closed for several hours while the debris is cleared.

One man has been taken to hospital in Bristol with minor injuries, according to Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

A police spokesman said: “The incident happened shortly after 3am.

“One man sustained minor injuries and was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary as a precaution.

“Both vehicles are in the process of being recovered but this is expected to take some time.

“Delays are likely and so motorists are advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes where possible.”

Motorists are being diverted off the M5 at junction 19, while lorry drivers are asked to exit at junction 18 (Avonmouth) and rejoin at junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare).
