A NEW website promoting Weston as a tourist destination has been officially launched.

Weston Town Council’s Love Weston site was unveiled at a meeting at The Blakehay Theatre on Thursday. The site provides listings for a range of accommodation, attractions, activities and information for the town.

It has been set up by New Mind, a web design company in charge of a host of other tourism sites across the country, including Visit Scotland and Visit Bath.

The event was effectively a second attempt at launching such a site, after the council ran into trouble with its previous site-building firm Insider Knowledge.

Town council leader Peter Crewe said: “As many of you know this is really a relaunch. We had a bad experience last year with the company that was commissioned to do the website.

“As time went on it was quite clear that they hadn’t done all the work they said they had done and the website wasn’t very good.

“The point now is to push to get people into Weston, people that might stay for the weekend, stay for a week.

“It’s all about doing what we can as a town council working with the BID to do all it’s possible to make Weston the hub.”

“I would like to thank the staff at Weston Town Council, the finance team, Malcolm Nicholson, but mainly my colleagues.

“They have been very supportive of this. We have worked together regardless of party.”

Former Weston mayor David Hitchins said: “It is great to see so many from all the different organisers. It has been hard work behind the scenes to get to where we are today.”

“I think Weston is the jewel in the crown of Somerset. We are proud of our seafront, of our pier. It’s really positive and I’m proud of our town.”
