NEW driver information signs will be installed on the M5 between Clevedon and Portishead.The overhead matrix sign gantries are to be put in each direction on the motorway to improve driver information.The signs will display advisory speed limits and lane closure information. The gantries are part of a £28 million scheme to reduce southbound traffic congestion on Naish Hill and northbound on Tickenham Hill, by constructing new climbing lanes. Work is due to be complete by the end of June.Highways Agency project manager David Stock said: "This is one of the final stages of the major improvements being carried out to reduce congestion by building new climbing lanes on Naish and Tickenham Hills."The new gantry matrix signs will be displayed over each lane of the uphill sections."While the new gantries are being lifted into place the affected carriageway will be closed.The southbound carriageway will close between 10pm on May 6 until 9am on May 7.Traffic will be diverted off the M5 at junction 18 via the A4 and A370 to rejoin at junction 21. The northbound carriageway will be closed between 10pm on May 20 and 9am on May 21 and traffic will be diverted off the M5 at junction 21 via the A370 to rejoin the M5 at junction 18.
