There are delays of 20 minutes travelling on the M5 northbound today (Thursday) after a vehicle 'left the carriageway' in an accident and further problems getting on the motorway to travel southbound from Weston-super-Mare.

Highways England is reporting one lane of the northbound carriageway is closed between junction 20 (Clevedon) and junction 19 (Portishead) due to an accident where ‘a vehicle left the carriageway’.

Tailbacks are causing delays of around 20 minutes and traffic is not expected to return to normal until 3.30pm.

There are also problems getting onto the motorway to travel southbound from junction 21 (Weston) due to a broken down vehicle.

One lane of the slip road is blocked, but it is expected to clear by 2pm.
