Commuters heading in and out of Weston-super-Mare have faced substantial delays today (Wednesday), after a motorbike crashed on the M5.
The incident occurred at around 4.20pm on the northbound carriageway between motorway junctions 21 and 20, Weston and Clevedon.
It is thought the motorbike was the only vehicle involved, and there is no word as yet on any injuries sustained by the biker.
However, lanes two and three were initially closed while police worked to clear the aftermath of the crash, before traffic officers briefly shut the third lane too shortly before 5pm.
All three lanes reopened at 5.15pm.
Major queues had built up by that point, with some motorists waiting for more than an hour to get out of Weston, and motorway queues backing up to the Burnham exit at junction 22.
Congestion was reported on the A38 between Burnham and Weston too, as drivers looked to escape the motorway queues.
The incident is the second time the M5 has been closed near to Weston in the past three days, following a two-car crash on Monday which saw four people hurt and a child airlifted to hospital.
