Highways England is working to clear a spillage on the M5 northbound in Somerset following an accident earlier today (Thursday) – with one lane requiring extensive resurfacing work.

There was a collision on the motorway between Bridgwater and Burnham-on-Sea earlier this morning involving a lorry and a car transporter.

There was a significant oil spillage and two lanes were closed. One lane has re-opened but one will remain closed for repairs to take place.

Highways England operations manager, Christian Morgan, said: “Lane one will require extensive resurfacing work because it has been damaged following the spillage. We’re working hard to get the lane open as quickly as possible and we’d like to thank motorists for their patience while this takes place.”
