TRAVEL UPDATES: M5 queues in both directions at Weston-super-Mare and A370 affected
PUBLISHED: 11:48 11 August 2017 | UPDATED: 16:35 11 August 2017
There are long delays travelling in both directions on the M5 today (Friday) as well as queues on North Somerset’s roads. We’ll be bringing you updates throughout the afternoon…
The M5 is running slowly from Taunton to Clevedon today, with particularly bad queues between junction 21 at Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon.
The queues are nothing like last week, which saw the whole of Weston gridlocked as people reported delays of up to 10 hours.
However, it is also Bristol Balloon Fiesta this weekend so there is likely to be more cars on the roads as people head to Ashton Court, in Long Ashton.
UPDATE: 4.29pm: M5 traffic at a standstill
Traffic is not moving southbound between junction 19 (Portishead) and junction 20 (Clevedon). It improves slightly until Weston-super-Mare, where it then clears.
There is congestion along the northbound carriageway throughout the whole of Somerset.
Issues remain on the A370 and A38, with queues now building around junction 21 of the M5 at Weston, with heavy traffic also reported in St Georges.
UPDATE: 3.02pm: Slow traffic in Yatton
North End Road, in Yatton, is particularly slow this afternoon. Wales & West Utilities is carrying out work on the road, and temporary traffic lights are in operation.
The roadworks will run until September 1.
UPDATE: 2.33pm: Traffic builds on A370 and A38
People are now experiencing delays of up to 45 minutes on the motorway travelling southbound from Bristol to Weston.
Northbound there are queues stretching as far back as Wellington.
As people try to avoid congestion on the motorway, traffic is building on the roads around Weston.
There are queues on the A370, with stop start traffic between Backwell and Congresbury and queues all the way to Weston.
People are also reporting delays on the A38 at Highbridge, and again on the A38 around Bristol Airport.
UPDATE: 1.26pm: Accident cleared, but queues remain
An earlier accident on the southbound carriageway of the M5 has cleared, and all lanes are now open.
But there are still queues stretching back to junction 18 of the M5, at Avonmouth.
Highways England is reporting delays of around 30 minutes between junction 20 (Clevedon) and junction 19 (Portishead).
UPDATE: 1.06pm: Accident on M5 southbound
Highways England is now reporting an accident on the southbound carriageway of the motorway, near junction 21 (Weston).
One lane has been closed and there are delays of around 20 minutes.
Traffic is expected to clear by 3pm.
