A cancer charity is urging people to follow in the footsteps of Weston’s Woodland Tennis Club and raise money for vital nursing care across the area.

Macmillan Cancer Support has launched its #YourNurseYourHour challenge, which is urging people to raise just £27 – the amount needed to pay for one cancer nurse for one hour – by organising fundraising activities.

Woodland Tennis Club, in Woodland Road, paid for more than 13 hours of nursing care by putting on a spread of cakes for a ladies’ social morning and a junior training session.

Club spokesman Annie Buckingham said: “We do enjoy putting on events at the club to bring everyone together and encourage new members – and an excuse to eat cake always works for everyone.

“It’s good to know we are supporting such an important service that’s local to us at the same time.”
