A man has been arrested after a fire broke out at a flat in Weston-super-Mare yesterday (Sunday).

Crews from Weston-super-Mare and Winscombe were called to a fire in a ground floor flat in Langport Road which is thought to have been started deliberately.

Fire fighters used breathing apparatus, a high pressure hose reel and jet to put out the fire after being called at about 7.57pm.

A ventilation fan was also used to clear the building of smoke and no one was injured in the incident.

A man who left the property has since been arrested and is currently in police custody.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a disturbance at a property in Langport Road last night shortly before 8pm.

“A man was threatened and shortly after a fire alarm went off.

“The property, which consists of bedsits and two houses, was evacuated.”
