AN AIR ambulance and two fire crews were called out on Monday to help a man who had become impaled on his bike.

The 57-year-old man fell off his bike on Somerdale Avenue, in Milton and impaled his thigh on the brake lever.

Emergency servies were called at 8.50am and the man was lying on the road, with the bike stood up, while fire crews cut the handlebars off to relieve the weight off him.

They then removed the lever at the scene, with treatment from paramedics and the air ambulance doctor.

He has now been taken to Weston General Hospital by a normal ambulance, with the air ambulance doctor travelling with them. They arrived at hospital just before 10am.
