A man has been arrested and released on bail on suspicion of setting fire to a mental health hospital in Oldmixon.
Crews from Weston-super-Mare and Winscombe were called at midnight on Saturday to a fire which engulfed a ground floor flat of The Copse, in Beechmount Close.
A spokesman from Avon and Somerset Contabulary said: “A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent. He has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.”
The Copse is a locked rehabilitation service for men and women with mental illnesses.
A spokesman from the hospital said: “Staff on site carried out the necessary procedure immediately and due to their quick reactions, the building was evacuated safely and no-one was hurt.”
