WESTON Chamber of Commerce is backing the campaign for a marina and breakwater scheme in the town.Members are delighted North Somerset Council and Weston Town Council are looking into the possibility of a marina and are writing to both councils to pledge their support.Work is due to start on the council's £17million sea defence scheme between April and October. The proposal for a 1-1.5m secondary splash was approved last December with conditions that extra crossing points are put in to enable pedestrians to access seafront businesses and hotels more easily. North Somerset planners are still discussing the exact locations of the crossings with the Environment Agency, but gates are expected to be placed at the Knightstone slipway, opposite the Seaward Hotel, The Old Colonial, the Cabot and the Winter Gardens. The gates will be made of solid steel, ready to be put up during advanced storm warnings. The crossing at Knightstone slipway will be larger with the gate designed to sink down into the road when it is not needed.
