A Weston-super-Mare man has won a contest which would have been more fitting in medieval times than in 2017.
Martin Townley, aged 46, won a jousting tournament in Warwick, just a short distance away from the castle the sport would have taken place in hundreds of years ago.
In jousting, competitor use shield and lance to try to unseat rivals.
Mr Townley has been taking part in jousting for the past few years, ever since he was given an experience day as a birthday present.
He competed in the Knights Of Middle England Amateur Jousting Tournament. During the first part of the day, he had to collect rings and hit targets.
His wife, Jayne, said: “The second part was a full-on joust against an instructor.
“They were riding towards each other at 30 miles per hour with 12ft lances.”
Mr Townley, who had a medieval-themed wedding, finished with the most points after the two rounds.
