GILDED chains were exchanged in an age-old ceremony as the new mayor of Weston was appointed.Councillor John Ley-Morgan was sworn in at an annual meeting of Weston Town Council last week and gave a speech outlining his priorities for his time in office.He said: "It is time to seek bigger and better shops for the town, job creation and employment - and the development of more attractions for locals and visitors alike. We represent people who are concerned about plans for the Tropicana site - and I have yet to meet anyone who is in favour."Cllr Ley-Morgan has taken over responsibilities from Paula Howell and Cllr Andrew Horler is now deputy mayor.Youth organisations are this year's charities of choice for the new mayor. Afterwards councillors celebrated with a meal at the Winter Gardens.
