Avon and Somerset Constabulary will commemorate National Police Memorial Day in Weston on Sunday, with a private service and parade.

The event remembers those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It will be overseen by Assistant Chief Constable Louise Rolfe and John Smith from the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

It will begin with a private service at police headquarters before the memorial parade through Weston from 2.45pm along Union Street, Oxford Street and Walliscote Road. A private service will then be held.

Sergeant Neil Goodwin, who helps organise the event, said: “This event gives local members of the constabulary an opportunity to honour the bravery and sacrifice of colleagues who have laid down their lives for the public and remember others who have died.

“We’re very grateful for the support we have had from the community over the years to establish this as an annual event.”
