Ann Widdecombe, Rachel Johnson – sister of former foreign secretary Boris Johnson – Lord Andrew Adonis and serving MEP Molly Scott Cato are among the most recognisable names standing to be elected to serve the South West at the European Union (EU).

With no agreement on Britain’s EU exit, the country faces electing MEPs despite 52 per cent of the electorate calling for the UK to leave three years ago.

Six MEPs will represent the South West, including Gibraltar.

The vote, assuming no Brexit deal is agreed in time, will be held on May 23, three weeks after council elections.
