Mercury picture showcase
PUBLISHED: 11:00 15 January 2012
THE Mercury has this week launched a new picture showcase, to display the fine photographic talents of our readers.
We plan to focus on several of the area’s thriving photography groups, and also show off some of the skills of young up-and-coming talents.
We’d love to see your pictures - send them to firstname.lastname@example.org - but today, begin by taking a look at the fine work of Weston’s A1 Camera Club.
With around 40 members, A1 Camera Club has grown significantly in the past 12 months.
A varied programme of activities planned for 2012 makes the club an ideal place for both novice and experienced photographers to meet other enthusiasts and improve their photographic skills.
All aspects of taking and presenting photographs are covered, and to encourage progress the club will again end the season with an exhibition of members’ images at Weston Museum in July.
In the first half of the current season, which began in early September, the quality and diversity of the images captured by members suggest the exhibition will once again appeal to a wide range of tastes. As with any form of art, taste in photographic images can be very subjective with the photographers themselves usually keen on particular styles of photography and subjects. One of the aims of the club is to challenge members to try a wider range of techniques and subjects to broaden their knowledge of their cameras and its various settings.
