A MAN with 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren has celebrated his 100th birthday.

James Vyse, also known as Jim, was born in Hertfordshire but moved to Blagdon in 1947 to work as a farmer for Sir John Wills, where he stayed until retiring at the age of 75.

Mr Vyse has two daughters, Pauline and Su (pictured with James), and one son, Lawrence.

He lives in Uphill and celebrated turning 100 surrounded by family with a cream tea at Banwell Castle.

His daughter, Pauline Purvis, said: “I think he would say fresh air and good food is the secret to reaching such a grand old age.”
