A WESTON minister and some of his congregation are losing pounds to kick-start a campaign to raise £200,000.Shane Dean, leader of H Church in Weston, and a few of his flock are being sponsored to lose weight to launch their building fund. Shane aims to slice two stone off his 14 stone frame in just three months and was weighed in front of the church on Sunday so members of the congregation can keep an eye on his progress. The church's congregation has more than doubled in nine months and the base in Hughenden Road needs more space to cope with increased numbers.Former newspaper journalist Shane, aged 33, said: "We need more space for our community projects. I thought I'd lead the way by starting the fund-raising, difficult though losing weight is."We want to help people in the community and offer hope to them, hence our name of H Church."We are also getting involved practically through garden projects to help the elderly."H Church is used by the community throughout the week and holds keep fit classes, toddler groups, children's activities and clubs for everyone aged four-20 on Friday nights. Members have also started up a cafe on Saturday mornings.Anyone wanting to donate to the campaign or anyone who knows a building or land which might be suitable for the church can call 01934 620500 or see the website at www.hchurch.co.uk* Pictured: Mark Ravan, Minister, Shane Dean, David Sinclair and Richard Hashem.
