Minister praises Town Hall library

WESTON’S library has been praised after a Government minister visited the new Town Hall today (Thurs).
Ed Vaizey MP, minister for culture, communications and creative industries, unveiled a plaque as he officially opened the library at lunchtime.
He praised North Somerset Council and leader Nigel Ashton for bringing together a facility that not only houses a library, but also has offers council services and deals with police enquiries.
Mr Vaizey said: “This new library is a fantastic example of the type of service we believe the public wants and also provides economic sense.
“Through working together and improving the range of services on offer, the library has not only been protected but will be more efficient in the long-term.

The Town Hall opened in September and the police enquiries desk moved across the road from the police station at the beginning of 2013.

Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said the move had helped the council, the police and most importantly Weston people.
She said: “Having police and council enquiries handled in one central location is an innovative way to serve the people of Weston.
“I have visited the Town Hall a number of times since being elected and have been very impressed with the efficient and knowledgeable way the staff deal with a whole range of enquires.
“By working so closely with partner agencies in North Somerset, Avon and Somerset police are delivering value for money whilst maintaining a high level of public service.”
