A WOMAN who went missing from a Somerset town earlier this week has been found dead on a railway line, the Mercury understands.

Edith Batten, aged 79, went missing from her home in Highbridge at 11am on Sunday.

A body found beside the line at Dunball foot crossing, Bridgwater, is believed to be her, according to a local source.

Police closed the line and preserved the scene overnight to carry out a daylight search of the area.

Trains were suspended last night when the body was found but have now returned to normal service.

The investigation is ongoing.
