A BAN on using mobile phones in Weston General Hospital has been lifted this week. From Monday patients and visitors have been able to make calls in designated areas including public corridors, the main reception area and in the outdoor grounds. Previously, a hospital-wide ban was in place over fears of interference with sensitive medical equipment. Weston Area Health Trust, which runs the hospital, says phones will still be barred from clinical and ward areas to protect patients' privacy and dignity. A ban also remains in place on all medical and surgical wards. Clearly marked signs will inform callers where they can safely use their telephones at the Grange Road site.
