Theresa Body, her husband Jeff and her mother Kate held a summer fair in Weare at the weekend to raise money for the Weston-super-Mare-based charity which supported her father.

John Pound, from Axbridge, died in August last year, five weeks after he was diagnosed with cancer.

The family had held a number of small events such as coffee mornings, raffles and barbecues since his death and had raised around £750.

Theresa told the Mercury: “We set ourselves a £1,000 target but needed to work out how to raise the money.

“Over the four hours there had to have been around 200 people visiting.

“We have now raised £1,650 to give to Weston Hospicecare in memory of my dad.

“My mother has at least one more donation in the pipeline so the final figure could be different.

“We had a lovely day, the sun shone and people were very generous.”
