Volunteers fulfill a variety of different roles

POLICE in Highbridge are advertising for more volunteers after a successful year of helping the public in the town.

The Avon and Somerset Police Beat team and volunteers have taken over 1,000 enquiries at the Police Pod at the Asda supermarket in Caxton Road since opening in April 2009.

Volunteers fill a variety of roles, including supporting crime prevention initiatives, speaking to members of the public and liaising with the Beat Team as a link between the public and the police.

PCSO Claire Finch of the Highbridge Beat Team said: “Volunteering provides a unique opportunity for individuals to use their skills, experience and local knowledge to make a positive contribution to their community by supporting the work of the constabulary.

“The Highbridge Beat Team are thrilled with the positive impact the Pod has had on our community and would like to thank the volunteers, past and present for all the hard work and dedication they have shown in helping to make the Pod a success.”
