A community group has raised hundred of pounds for the Weston-super-Mare General Hospital Scanner Appeal.

The Bleadon WI held a tea party and prosecco event to raise money for the important cause.

Members made delicious cakes to sell at Coronation Hall, in Coronation Street, earlier this month and it proved to be a huge success.

The group raised £580 for the appeal, which aims to raise £400,000 for new and improved equipment for the hospital’s radiology department, in Grange Road.

The event was a sell out with more than 50 people enjoying a cup of tea, glass of prosecco and a sweet treat.

WI committee member Aline Bennett praised the generosity of the guests.

She added: “Our WI adopted the Weston Hospital Scanner Appeal as it is a local initiative and everyone will benefit.

“A few members are Friends of the Hospital and work in the hospital shop as volunteers.”
