THE number of people using the internet to book GP appointments and repeat prescriptions has trebled.

Figures for Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire show more than 200,000 people now head online when needing to contact their doctor for day-to-day issues.

The Health and Care Information Centre’s data shows 95 per cent of patients have signed up to use the online services.

Beverley Bryant, director of digital technology for NHS England, said: “Many patients want the flexibility of booking services online so we are delighted that GPs have worked so hard to make this possible.

“There is more to come as we develop services that will increasingly help patients take more control of their health.”
