MORE sports facilities could soon be springing up in Nailsea.

Nailsea Town Council has bought 10 acres of land on Engine Lane to be used for sports and leisure activities and members of the public are being asked what they would like to see the land used for.

Nailsea Town Council clerk Ian Morrell said: "We would like to get feedback from sports clubs and residents about what they'd like to see the land used for.

"The council has no specific plans for the land but an opportunity came up to buy it and it felt it was important to acquire it to avoid it being used for other purposes."

The land, next to the field used by Nailsea and Backwell Rugby Club, was owned by the late George Baker, who was a well-known at a number of sports clubs in Nailsea along with his wife Clarice, who played for Nailsea Hockey Club until she was 60.

After George died the land was given to his three children, who are delighted that the town council has now bought it for the benefit of the community.

Anyone keen to voice their views on how the land should be used can call the town council office on 01275 855277.
