People arrived in their hundreds to enjoy more than 80 beers, ciders and wines at a Star Wars-themed ale festival.

Wedmore Real Ale Festival celebrated its 16th birthday with the most successful event to date, raising more than £6,000 for charity.

Guests enjoyed 66 different ales from around the country, 14 locally-brewed ciders and five European and South American wines.

The annual event attracted more than 400 people each night.

Committee member Alan Page told the Mercury: “During the weekend more than 5,000 pints and 179 bottles of wine and prosecco had been drunk, helping our revenues rise by 8.8 per cent and make our 16th festival the most successful to date.”

Bands played in the marquee and the main hall throughout the event, after Paul Dockerty and Livewired started the proceedings on Friday.

The money raised will be distributed to a number of worthy causes in October.
