A NEW drug-analysis kit will be used by police to test drivers for drug use.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary relaunched its month-long Operation Tonic campaign this week.
Police are reminding people about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
For the first time, the force will be testing motorists for suspected drugs, including cannabis and cocaine.
It will also publicly name every driver charged with a drink or drug offence.
Road Safety Superintendent Richard Corrigan said: “We are determined to do whatever we can to stop people driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.
“If just one collision or death is prevented, then our campaign will be a success.
“The message is clearer than ever – there is no excuse and we will arrest any drivers who are suspected to be driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.”
