WESTON MP John Penrose has been installed as president of a town organisation with a proud history of medical fund-raising.

On Friday, Mr Penrose was named as the 10th president of Weston General Hospital League of Friends.

He told Friends members: “I have always felt that the hospital is a vital part of the local community, which Weston is proud of.

“We are proud also of the role the League of Friends play to help the hospital. I am looking forward to working with you and delighted to be here.”

The group was founded in 1954 and has helped buy hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of medical kit for the Grange Road hospital.
