KILLING any fears over privatisation of Weston General Hospital is good news for the town, according to its MP.

John Penrose said this was the right answer for patients, their families and staff.

Weston Area Health NHS Trust revealed on Wednesday it would be looking for a fellow NHS trust to help run the management of it in future, ruling out the possibility of a private company getting involved.

He said: “Merging with another nearby NHS hospital will allow Weston to draw on a much deeper and broader pool of top consultants and other medical professionals, so the quality of treatment and care will be reliably top notch.

“Local services will be preserved, so patients and their families won’t have to travel to Bristol for routine treatment in future.

“Staff will have a wider and more varied range of career opportunities in a bigger organisation.

“And this should kill off any lingering fears that the hospital might be privatised for good.”
