A Somerset MP has been shortlisted for a Green Heart Hero award.

The award celebrates people and businesses who are working to make a difference on climate change.

Wells MP James Heappey has been nominated for the Greenest New MP award for the work he has been doing in Parliament to promote clean energy and the importance of protecting the environment.

He is regarded as one of the leading voices for renewable energy, clean technology and climate change in Parliament.

He said: “I am hugely honoured to have been nominated for this award and to have made the final three.

“I see huge opportunity in clean technologies to bring down the price of energy, secure our supply and decarbonise.

“I am passionate about making it happen because it is right for our economy and our environment.”

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in the House Of Commons on March 13.
