WITH X Factor returning to our screens this month singers, comedians and performers from across thedistrict have signed up to a new Weston talent show.
The talent contest was launched a couple of months ago to search for this year’s rising star.
The competition, which was inspired by members of Weston Town Council, is looking a James Arthur, the next Diversity or even a group to rival the likes of teen-favourite One Direction.
Cllr Roger Bailey, one of the organisers of the show, said: “We are delighted MP John Penrose has agreed to be one of the judges at the final at The Blakehay Theatre in February.
“We will be having a celebrity panel with a few more well-known personalities to ensure the eventual winner receives a valuable endorsement of their talents.
“Entries are arriving thick and fast ahead of our first heat at Uphill, with contestants signing up from, not only Weston, but as far afield as South Gloucestershire and even Berkshire.”
The talent competition’s first heat will go ahead on September 14 from 4-7pm at Uphill Victoria Hall with another six throughout the year.
Weston’s Got Talent is not limited to just residents of the town, but also visitors, and anyone of any age can put forward their talent for the show.
Cllr Bailey added: “By working with the Weston-SUPER-Events project from Weston Arts Social Enterprise, we have been able to provide good-quality technical support for the acts, which we hope will show them their participation is valued and taken seriously.”
