A PROPERTY developer has agreed to buy an historic Weston College building in a deal worth several million pounds. The college's Westcliff site will be transformed into one of the most exclusive developments of apartments in the town. The flats will have views across the Bristol Channel and Birnbeck Pier and will command premium prices when they finally go on sale.Although the deal has been signed, the sale will not be completed until next summer. This will mean students in the college's creative art and design faculty will be able to stay in the Westcliff buildings in Upper Kewstoke Road until their new facility is completed in Loxton Road. The college has sold the block of five houses, which date back to 1880, to the Bristol-based PG Group.Rod Gribble, the college's director of corporate services, confirmed the sale has been agreed for a 'seven figure sum.'He said: "The sale is critical to funding the college's second site which is being built at the moment."The students will not see any change over the coming year. We will just pack everything up over the summer holiday in 2007."Westcliff is a beautiful building but it's not really suited to what we need it for."It is very much part of the heritage of Weston and the buildings have served the college well over the years, but we must look to the future with the exciting new campus development in Loxton Road."Weston estate agent Paul Calcutt, managing director of Biscal Homes, said a two bedroom flat at the Westcliff site would sell for up to £350,000.He said: "It's an absolutely prime location because of the views. If they did something to Birnbeck, the prices would go even higher."A PG Group spokesman said: "We will be working with the planners to ensure a sympathetic restoration to enhance this area of Weston.
