FAMILY and friends of a Worle marine are getting ready for a big challenge later this year.
Mum-of-two, Carla Pither, will be taking part in the Bristol half marathon to raise cash for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
The 48-year-old has chosen this charity as her son, 24-year-old former Worle Community School student, Dan, is serving as a Royal Marine in Afghanistan with the 42 Commando.
Carla, who will be accompanied by her 22-year-old daughter, Lauren, and Dan’s good friend, Shawn Kittridge, is also appealing to Weston runners to sign up to the race.
The Hawthorn Gardens resident said: “We want to show our marines that they are not forgotten, and their continued efforts do not go unnoticed while serving in such hostile circumstances.
“Furthermore, it is important to raise community awareness and support for our boys serving from the North Somerset area.”
In preparation for the big day, on September 11, all three have been training along Weston seafront and in the woods.
