Mum's recycling nightmare

A WESTON mum says her 'unbelievable' problems with recycling have been such a nightmare she may just give up all together.
Disheartened mum-of-three, Michele Richardson, said she has been trying to recycle but the bin men, contracted by North Somerset Council, just keep on forgetting to pick up her green boxes and garden waste.
Michele, who lives just off Worlebury Hill Road, said things had been running smoothly, but over the past few months her recycling has not been collected a total of 12 times.
The 49-year-old business trainer said: “They pick up my black bin, and other people’s recycling, but they can’t seem to get the hang of picking up our recycling, which again leaves me having to take it to the tip – which is not what I want to do on my day off.
“They go on and on about us recycling, yet when we do they don’t actually pick it up – it’s unbelievable.
“We are trying to recycle but we can’t.
“They have only picked it up after I have ranted down the phone to them, and when I told them about it they said ‘oh it’s only 10 times that we have missed it’. It just makes me so angry that we have to go through so much to recycle.”
In a bid to speed up the recycling collections across the district back in January, the May Gurney contractors agreed to collect all different forms of recyclable goods together, and sort them later.
Michele, who said she leaves her recycling exactly where she was advised to, wants the council to rectify this inconsistency as soon as possible and queries how many others have had the same problem.
A spokesman from the unitary authority said: “We are sorry that we have been missing the recycling as we are keen for people to recycle and we encourage this.
“We have excellent recycling rates, which are above 50 per cent, and we will be looking into this to try and make sure we are picking it up.”
