A murder investigation has begun after a woman’s body was found in Worle on Thursday – and police have linked her death to the fatal collision which happened in Weston-super-Mare on the same day.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has today (Monday) announced it has launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a 70-year-old woman’s body at a house in Worle last week.

The body was discovered in Pilgrim’s Way at around 9.30am on Thursday.

A spokesman from the force said the murder has been linked to a fatal road traffic collision, which took place on the toll road – which links Weston and Kewstoke – at 8am on the same day.

The spokesman said: “A man, aged 74, died at the scene as a result of the injuries he sustained after his car was in collision with a tree.

“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this murder investigation.

“Our enquires are continuing and our thoughts remain with the family of those who have died.”
