A TEENAGE killer has been jailed today (Mon) after murdering a Weston man.

Ryan Sheppard, aged 18, killed Mark Roberts on October 12 last year.

He asked Mr Roberts for a cigarette, before punching the 35-year-old to the floor in Baildon Road on the Bournville estate. The teenager then kicked and stamped on him.

Sheppard, of Sunnyside Road, was sentenced to a minimum of 12 years and three months behind bars after pleading guilty to one count of murder.

Sheppard, who was only 17 at the time of the attack, was labelled ‘cowardly’ by a judge at Bristol Crown Court this afternoon.

Judge Neil Ford QC said Sheppard’s attack was ‘unprovoked’ and ‘brutal’.

A 16-year-old co-defendant, who has not been named because she is too young, was cleared of all charges relating to the incident.

Police have issued a statement this afternoon thanking the public for helping their investigation.
