ONE-time North Somerset Council leader Nan Kirsen is back in political life after winning the by election in Pill.Mrs Kirsen, who stood as an Independent candidate for the seat left vacant following the sudden death of Glyn Duck, won the election by a majority of just seven votes.Mrs Kirsen polled 360 votes while Pauline Robertson, standing as a Labour candidate, narrowly missed out on victory with 353 votes.Liberal Democrat candidate David Neale received 202 votes while the Conservative candidate Anne-Marie Gregory came in fourth place with 147 votes.Nan Kirsen, aged 61, from Easton-in-Gordano, was the first female leader of Woodspring and then North Somerset Council and was involved in politics, representing the Liberal Democrat party, for 13 years.She said she was looking forward to campaigning for local people and issues in the village and making sure Pill 'got a fair share of the funding cake'.Mrs Kirsen, a nurse, is married to Peter and has one son called Barney.
