A NEW BOOK full of photos of Weston over the past 150 years released last week.

Weston-super-Mare Through Time contains almost 100 photos of the area dating as far back as 1860 as well as pictures of modern-day Weston for comparison.

Weston-born photographer Stephen Butt gathered the pictures from his own family photographs and archives.

He then went to the places featured in the old photos to recreate the images with modern-day equivalents.

Some of the best pictures include shots of the original Grand Pier and the Grand Atlantic Hotel in Beach Road.

Asked how Weston has changed, Mr Butt said: “I think that Weston today looks really good.

“It started to decline as it had to compete with foreign holidays but now Weston has really woken up and the place is looking great, especially the new Grand Pier.

“The one disappointment is the Tropicana.”

The book is Mr Butt’s fifth photography publication. Others have included Rutland Through Time and Paranormal Leicester.
