NORTH Somerset councillors are looking into the cost of a new graveyard for Congresbury and Yatton.

NORTH Somerset councillors are looking into the cost of a new graveyard for Congresbury and Yatton.

Last month the Weston & Somerset Mercury revealed how villagers are running out of space to bury their dead.

The graveyard off Church Road in Yatton only has enough plots for corpses for two to three more years, according to parish council chairman Juley Howard.

The parish council is hoping to persuade the unitary authority to put aside a piece of land next to the allotments in Mendip Road, Congresbury, to use as a new burial site.

It has already put aside £50,000 of its own budget for a new graveyard for the area.

At this week's parish council meeting, district councillor Jill Iles said she and Councillor Tony Moulin are currently looking into the cost of a new burial ground and will report back to the parish council with any updates.
