New funding will boost Weston's cycling network.

Substantial new funding has been awarded to improve cycling and pedestrian links in two key Weston-super-Mare projects.

The West of England Joint Committee has earmarked more than half a million pounds from its Local Growth Fund to support the Italian Gardens renovation and plug a missing link in the coastal cyling path.

The first scheme will see £500,000 used towards improvements to walking and cycling opportunities around the Italian Gardens, South Parade and Regent Street.

The second will see £10,000 awarded for preliminary works to improve a coast path for walkers and cyclists, including a missing section in Uphill Road North.

North Somerset Council’s deputy leader Elfan Ap Rees said: “This will enable better walking and cycling links and improved bus journey times in Weston town centre, while assisting in regenerating important areas of the town’s public realm.”
