PUPILS in North Somerset are to be among the first in the country to be offered a new range of qualifications.From September 2008, young people in North Somerset will have the opportunity to study the new specialist diplomas in creative and media and information technology.This follows a successful bid to the Department of Education and Skills to pilot the new choice of qualifications for 14 to 19-year-olds.North Somerset secondary schools will be working with other partners to deliver the new qualifications which will combine academic study with more active learning in and out of the classroom.They are designed to sit alongside the existing GCSEs and A-levels and offer the opportunity for further study at university, further education and apprenticeships.
